Congressional Sports for Charity Announces First Round 2018 Grants Grant Awards Support Local Charities that Serve Children and Families
Washington, DC – October 11, 2018 – Congressional Sports for Charity (CSC), the nonprofit 501c3 organization that conducts the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, among other events, announced its first round of grants for 2018. CSC awarded grants earlier this month to 20 organizations totaling nearly $700,000.
This funding cycle included funds set aside to support future needs of the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund in honor of the officers who were injured during the shooting that took place at the Republican practice on June 14, 2017 in Alexandria, Virginia. A grant was also made to support the Community Oriented Policing Section program of the Alexandria Police Foundation. In addition, grants were made to: Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington; Capitol Hill Arts Workshop; College to Congress; Community Bridges; GALA Hispanic Theatre; Greater DC Diaper Bank; Homeless Children’s Playtime Project; Hope and a Home; Miriam’s Kitchen; National Baseball Hall of Fame (in partnership with the National’s Youth Baseball Academy); Playworks of Greater Washington; Soccer for the Future; The First Tee of Greater Washington, DC; The Fishing School; The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts; Washington Literacy Center; Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy; and Year Up National Capital Region. These grants will fund projects that support after school programing, feed the hungry, address homelessness, use sports to encourage positive youth development, and a variety of other local projects.
The tradition of the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity is about setting politics aside and coming together across the aisle to support children and families in need. CSC undertakes a rigorous application and review process to ensure the funds it stewards are supporting top notch programming in our communities.
“It is our great pleasure to support the charities that have been associated with the game for many years as well as other dynamic, local non-profits that we are learning about through our new application review process. We are happy to provide funds to charities dedicated to the children and families of the region,” said CSC President Ryan Thompson when asked about this year’s grants.
Hon. Bart Stupak, Chair of the CSC Grants Review Committee said, “It was humbling to review all the amazing work that is happening in the greater DC area. CSC is thrilled to be able to support these charities that are doing great work for children and families. ”
Additional grants may be made prior to the end of the year, dependent upon the discretion of the Board.
